FAQ

What is birth photography?

Birth Photography is more than just photos of a woman in labor.

It's the ups and the downs, the hard parts and the easy parts. It's a story of a mother being born, a child being brought into the world. A story that every child deserves to see when they are older. There are so many details that a woman miss because they are in a primal state. Pieces that help make the whole process more cohesive. A reminder of smells, lights, support, the emotions of meeting your little one for the first time. You've worked hard for 40ish weeks to grow and nourish a child, and then you bring them into the world with such power. You shouldn't miss any small detail in their story.

why hire a birth photographer?

There are SO MANY reasons but here's a few!

1. Capture your birth story. Having your birth story documented from the beginning of your labor journey to the first time you hold your baby is a wonderful keepsake to have, even if it’s only for you and your partner to look back on.

2. Allow everyone in the room to be present. Your partner in the birth space may be able to take photos, but that means they cannot be fully present in the moment with you. Or they may get overwhelmed and forget to take photos (like my partner). Having a professional birth photographer takes this pressure off everyone in the room.

3. Document all the details. While you are giving birth you will probably not notice some of the details going on around you, like the reactions of your partner and family members. These moments can be so wonderful to capture photos of and look back on fondly. Some of my favourite images are quiet moments shared between expectant parents.

FAQ

when should i book a photographer for my birth?

I recommended to book a birth photographer early in your pregnancy, ideally during the second trimester. This ensures availability and allows time for discussing your birth plan and preferences. We also offer payment plans to make things less financially stressful.

what if im not comfortable having someone document such an intimate moment?

It's crucial to choose a photographer you feel comfortable with. We understand the sensitivity of the situation and will work discreetly, respecting your privacy and preferences. That's why we have a meeting/ discussions beforehand to discuss exactly how you want your experience documented.

Most of my mums don't even notice I'm there.

FAQ

what if my birth doesn't go to plan?

Birth is unpredictable, and things may not go as planned. We endeavour to be flexible and adaptable to different situations and capture the moments as they unfold naturally. We will discuss back up plans in our one on one sessions.

do you only capture the actual birth?

While capturing the birth is an important moment, my packages focus on the whole experience. The moments before and after the birth, such as labor, family interactions, baby check with midwife, mum and dads first cuddle. These memories are often just as special to look back on.
