MY TOP 5 AUSTRALIAN BIRTH PODCASTS

Preparing for the birth of a child is an exciting and beautiful yet sometimes daunting journey, especially for those who have experienced a traumatic birth with their first child (like me). For many expectant parents, the desire for knowledge, support, and healing intertwines with the daily demands of life, often leaving little time for dedicated research and reflection. In such circumstances, I found the accessibility and convenience of podcasts became an invaluable companion, offering insights and solace during my daily commute to work.

We are so lucky! Australia is home to a vibrant community of podcasters dedicated to the art and science of childbirth, offering a diverse array of perspectives and experiences tailored to the unique needs of expectant parents. From empowering birth stories to expert advice from midwives and birth professionals, these podcasts provide a wealth of resources to navigate the complexities of pregnancy and birth. No matter what your preferences are!

In this list, we'll explore five must-listen Australian birth podcasts. Whether you're seeking guidance, validation, or simply a sense of connection, these podcasts are here to accompany you on your path, whether it's behind the wheel or in the quiet moments of reflection at home.

1 . The Great Birth Rebellion

Probably my favourite of the list and the one I most recommend to all of my expecting friends. The Great Birth Rebellion is hosted by @melaniethemidwife with cohost B from @coreandfloorrestore (up until episode 78). The podcast boldly explores and dismantles western beliefs and management of birth and looks to provide evidence based information on a wide range of topics. It seeks to champion the rights of the birthing woman and allow her to make informed choices that align with her values and preferences. My second born was tipped to be in the 97th percentile and after growth scans and obstetric appointments I was being pushed heavily into induction/ elective c section. I listened to their episode ' small babies, big babies'. and my goodness it was so refreshing! Finally, knowing the actual statistics behind the accuracy of ultrasounds, interventions etc. I chose to decline induction and birthed my beautiful boy naturally, unmedicated and unscathed. Highly Recommend.

2 . Positive Birth Australia

Hosted by Australian doula and childbirth educator, Shalome Stone, this podcast celebrates the beauty and strength of birth while dispelling myths and fears surrounding the process.
